Essence of Slovenia: From the Adriatic Coast to the Alpine Lakes

After breakfast, we’ll explore the best of Ljubljana on foot. A guided walking tour will take you through the city’s highlights, from the colorful market and elegant bridges to the lively squares. We’ll also enjoy a boat ride on the Ljubljanica River to see the city from a different perspective, followed by a visit to the hilltop Ljubljana Castle, which offers breathtaking views of the city and the Alps beyond. In your free time, discover Ljubljana’s reputation as a true foodie destination and taste some local specialties.

This morning, we leave the capital to discover one of Slovenia’s most fascinating regions, the Karst. Our first stop is the spectacular Skocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that hides one of the world’s largest underground canyons. Next, we visit the Lipica Stud Farm, where the famous white Lipizzan horses have been bred since the 16th century. In the afternoon, we continue toward the Adriatic Coast. Before you pack for the day, remember that the cave temperature is approximately 10 °C — warm layers are recommended. Enjoy a relaxing evening by the sea once we arrive.

Get ready for a day full of Mediterranean charm. In Piran, wander through its narrow streets and admire the Venetian architecture that tells the centuries-old story of its history. Climb the ancient city walls for unforgettable views of the terracotta rooftops and the sea. Later, visit the Secovlje Salt Pans, where salt has been produced by hand for more than 700 years. It is one of the few places in the Mediterranean where this ancient tradition still survives. Enjoy a relaxing evening with a seafood dinner or take a stroll along the beach.

After breakfast overlooking the Adriatic, we travel inland to explore Slovenia’s wine-growing regions. We’ll stop in Stanjel, one of the oldest settlements in the Karst, where stone houses and panoramic views create postcard-perfect scenes. Continue to the Vipava Valley, known for its world-class wines and family-run vineyards. Visit local winemakers in both Vipava Valley and Goriška Brda, taste their wines and regional delicacies such as Karst prosciutto, and enjoy the peaceful landscapes dotted with vineyards and hilltop villages. Spend the night in Goriska Brda, surrounded by rolling green hills.

Today, we head north through the Julian Alps to the Soca River Valley, one of Slovenia’s most beautiful natural areas. In the Tolmin Gorges, enjoy a scenic walk through turquoise waters and narrow rock passages before continuing to the Kozjak Waterfall, hidden deep in the forest near Kobarid. Afterward, visit the award-winning Kobarid Museum to learn about the region’s World War I history. Return to Bovec, a small alpine town surrounded by majestic peaks, where the evening is free to relax.

This morning, you can choose between a day of leisure in Bovec or an optional white-water rafting adventure on the emerald Soca River, an unforgettable experience for thrill seekers. Later, we cross the spectacular Vrsic Pass, Slovenia’s highest mountain road, stopping to photograph landmarks such as the stone face of the “Pagan Girl” and the wooden Russian Chapel. After descending into the valley, we pause at the crystal-clear Jasna Lake near Kranjska Gora before arriving in Bled.

After a restful night, we’ll explore Bled, Slovenia’s most iconic destination. Visit the medieval Bled Castle for sweeping lake views, then glide across the water in a traditional pletna boat to ring the wishing bell on Bled Island. You may also choose to visit the Vintgar Gorge for a scenic walk or continue to nearby Lake Bohinj, a serene glacial lake within Triglav National Park. Ride the cable car up Mount Vogel for incredible panoramic views before returning to Bled for your final evening in Slovenia.

Sadly, every wonderful journey must come to an end. Spend your final morning in Bled at your own pace, enjoy a walk by the lake, relax with a coffee overlooking the water, or take in the peaceful alpine scenery one last time.
